From Innsbruck to Lech Am Arlberg
Lech am Arlberg may only have a population of just under 1600 people but the small community in Vorarlberg, which lies on the river of the same name, has been internationally renowned for one thing in particular – skiing and winter sports in general. Situated at an altitude of 1444 metres and with an alpine area of almost 60 percent, the village once known as Tannberg am Lech attracts both young and old throughout winter and summer seasons. However, Lech became world-famous thanks to winter tourism and its unmistakable mountain village charm. Colourful murals on the walls of houses, rustic wooden houses and down-to-earth living culture unite to form this jewel of the region that emphasises hospitality above all. In today’s blog post, we are going to tell you why Lech am Arlberg is a must-see.
Nature and skiing
Lech does not only offer a magnificent scenery with bright blue skies but also mesmerises with fantastic ski slopes. The first guest is said to have learned to ski in this place in 1906, since then many others have followed. With a ski slope length of over 300 km and an additional 200 km of high alpine powder snow slopes, a skier’s heart is guaranteed to beat faster. 88 cable cars and lifts as well as local buses offer transportation. In addition, private taxi companies such as Alpinstar offer exclusive comfort for both inner-city transfer as well as airport transfer from and to the airport Innsbruck.
Away from the slopes
Who said you had to ski? You can have a lot of fun offside the slopes. For those who don’t want to or simply cannot ski, there are plenty of alternatives. Ice skating, paragliding or romantic sleigh rides are just some of the acitivities Lech has to offer when one is not in the mood for skiing.
Entertainment with style
Whether you want to enjoy a quick snack with your friends, have coffee and cake in the afternoon or maybe dine at a gourmet restaurant – Lech offers it all. Bars and restaurants provide stylish ambience and culinary delights at the highest level. During the skiing season, numerous mountain huts cater for refreshments and an exuberant atmosphere.
If you enjoy dancing away until early morning, you are most likely in the right spot. Dozens of clubs invite you to dance along tunes of famous DJs. Especially the dance café Arlberg or the White Ring parties are legendary in this region.
Shopping and Wellness
Enjoy the day and stroll around the city! Between Rüfiplatz and the village church there are numerous exclusive boutiques and shops. Whether you want to give yourself or someone else a treat, there is no end to the possibilities here.
But if you are not looking for a shopping spree only, but want to do something good for yourself, then Lech is certainly an excellent choice. Here, in the midst of nature, surrounded by mountains, good mountain air and fresh spring water, the soul can breathe again. Spa and wellness treatments have a long tradition here and one should not miss out on a great pampering. Natural cosmetic treatments, saunas and a variety of outdoor relaxation activities are just a few examples of what Lech has to offer.
Culture and sights
As with any good holiday, culture must never be neglected. Lech looks back on many centuries of history, culture and tradition. The parish church, for example, dates from the 14th century and has a unique onion roof. Other sights are the Kästle Mountain Museum, the viewing platform at Rüfikopf or the Museum Huber-Hus, which invites its guests to discover rural living and working.
